Ash Dieback - Chalara

What is Ash Dieback?

Ash Dieback is fungal disease affecting the common ash tree (Fraxinus excelsior) and other Fraxinus species. It is caused by a fungus called Hymenoscyphus fraxineus which is native to eastern Asia. The disease was first identified in England in 2012, although research has shown that it is likely to have been present since at least 2005.

As experienced foresters & woodland maintenance contractors, Knowle Tree Services Ltd supports the Forestry Commissions advice in management of the disease known as ‘Ash dieback ‘or ‘Chalara ‘and suggests checking of Ash trees regularly for signs and symptoms.

Public safety will be the biggest management issue for owners of  Ash trees over the coming years .

Monitoring and early intervention especially in cases where tree failure has the potential for serious injury or damage is essential .

Felling or pruning of dead or dying trees is advisable if risk assessments show they are a hazard.
